HTML 5 <details> tag

Definition and Usage

The <details> tag defines details of an element, which the user can see, and click to hide.

Differences Between HTML 4.01 and HTML 5

The <details> tag is new in HTML 5

Tips and Notes

Tip: Use it together with the <legend> tag to make your own header for the details. The header is visible for the user, and opens/closes the details when clicked on.

Attributes

Attribute Value Description
open true | false Defines if the details should be visible (true) or not (false). Default value is false

Standard Attributes

class, contenteditable, contextmenu, dir, draggable, id, irrelevant, lang, ref, registrationmark, tabindex, template, title
